Sticking with a "love" theme, here's my new memory verse for the last two weeks in March:

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
Honor one another above yourselves."
Romans 12:10

The combination of a call to love with the concept of honoring others above myself drew me to this verse. In our study of Esther, we've been looking at the villain's insatiable craving for honor and, honestly, that's made me pretty uncomfortable. I've spent a lot of my life seeking the approval of others - desiring to be hon
ored, admired, held in high esteem. I'm sick of it. I want to seek the approval of God - and be free to honor others -- above, always above, myself.
I love how this verse appears in a couple of other translations:

The Message (v. 9-10):

Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it.
Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good.
Be good friends who love deeply;
practice playing second fiddle.

New Living Translation:

Love each other with genuine affection,
and take delight in honoring each other.

English Standard Version:

Love one another with brotherly affection.
Outdo one another in showing honor.

I love the way the message says "practice playing second fiddle" and the New Living says to "take delight in honoring each other." But my favorite might be the ESV - "outdo one another in showing honor" hits all my over-achiever buttons!

Lisa Lowe (behind again!)

Deuteronomy 33:27 "The eternal God is a dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and He drove out the enemy from before you, and said, 'Destroy!'"

I picked this verse because our family has seemed to be having battles and I am not strong enough to fight them. I always feel like I need to fix everything for everyone, well, I can't! So I am going to rest underneath His arms and let Him drive out enemies who want to defeat us.....

Good one, Lisa! Like Beth said the other night - "Fire yourself!" You can't be responsible for the "how," just the "what" He's called you to!
Love you!

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, GOD DID, (the caps are mine, Leslie *grin*). Romans 8:3a

Well.... I know this probably sounds like cheating... but I am going to keep saying Philippians 4:6 over and over again until I find a job. I actually memorized this verse in College so it is not new to me (in a different translation... so maybe it's not completely like cheating lol... like God would ever think saying His Word over and over again was cheating)

"Do not be anxious about anyting, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

hey before i read your thoughts...i totally liked the "playing second fiddle" & "outdo one another by honoring them." : )

i always wanted to play the fiddle in real life. i'm sure it's not my nature to choose second fiddle, but i think it is wise & much like Jesus to & i want to strive in that direction!

i am working on memorizing
1 Peter:3-7

you are cool.
